Land Degradation Neutrality, or LDN, is the idea that a country should not end up with less healthy, productive land than it started with. Where land is degraded, an equivalent area should be restored.
It matters because LDN is the target countries actually report against. If you want to hold a government to account on land, this is the number to learn.
The catch is that “equivalent” hides a lot of judgement: which land, whose land, and measured how. That is exactly where young people’s scrutiny is useful.
